Such an amazing spot! They're doing a small pop up restaurant at this time. Awhile I haven't had a chance to eat here yet, I loved shopping for their specialty dashi stocks here. Staff was really friendly and they provided samples of the dashi stocks, which let you taste the nuances and flavor combinations. It is so warming and delicious! The store is a bit pricey but felt worthwhile given the quality, selection, and possibility of customization. It's located in a really interesting and beautiful space, which also features a lifestyle retailer and a omakase japanese restaurant.

I dont remember where I had heard about Dashi Okume. May have been a recommendation from a nearby stationery store in one of their videos. ANYWAY !! I had coincidentally walked by this place after dinner with my cousin, on the way to go to Caffe Panna. I had saw the sign for this place and got excited ! I I had used a variety of dashi packs from costco or mitsuwa or even brought some back from a Costco in Seoul. This is the first place i've been to/seen that you can either buy "pre-made" dashi packets or even custom make your own by picking each and every ingredient and they'll grind it and pack it for you It was definitely out of my element to pick my own ingredients but i did purchase the PREMIUM dashi and the TOKYO dashi (they have dispensers with the dashi for you to sample as well which helps you decide). Storage for me is quite ez since i live in a dry city but recommendations is in a cool. dry environment. You can go to their website (okume.us) for recipes or shop online for their products ! Staff is nice but limited. Unsure if its due to it being later in the day. The rest of the shop (unsure if related to Dashi) sells a lot of other snacks/sauces/utensils/etc which was fun for me to check out. Luckily I don't live here, otherwise my wallet will be quite emptier...

I am so happy I got a chance to stop here. I've been wanting to get some Dashi and this place is perfect. Not only can you build your own but you can buy and sample their pre-packaged ones. They also have a restaurant that I've yet to try but I will! They also sell quite expensive kitchenware and art pieces.

The breakfast sets are delicious! Make sure you get extra rice to eat it with the furakake. We also got some custom dashi packets, which you can make into the furakake as well.

I finally got to check out this space! Super cute and unique concept -- it's a Japanese inspired decor/home goods store that has a make your own dashi package area and a restaurant. The dashi is definitely worth trying and I loved the set up of a traditional Japanese lunch/brekkie meal tray. The fish we ordered was very good but I did feel it was a bit pricey for what we got. Overall a fun experience!

I stop by this spot every time I'm in Williamsburg. So much fun browsing their Japanese home goods collections (one day I'll be deserving enough to purchase their knives), dashi, and bonito flakes. The food sets are a little on the $$$ side... but DELICIOUS. My friend who had just returned from a long trip in Japan said their dishes was on par with what he had on his trip! Also side note... their floral collection is beautiful. If you ever want to gift your MIL, girlfriend, or any lucky lady (or gentleman) with a gorgeous and unique set of flowers/botanicals(?), get it here!

Food: amazing set. Flavors were very bold and definitely suited my palette. It reminded me of the food from Japan but seasoned a little heavier for the western palette Service: quick and efficient Ambiance: the whole market is a vibe. Definitely recommend a stop here for lunch!

A large store mainly for dashi and bonito flakes (dried fish) used for umami flavoring in cooking. They also sell a wide variety of Japanese spices, noodles, cutlery, and ceramics. I personally think their general wares are quite pricey, but they're all high quality. You can also try free samples of their dashi broth. In addition, they sell the ingredients and tools to make your own dashi, and demonstrate how to do so. Lastly, the store also operates as a tiny viewing museum and a mini restaurant with a few seating areas to the rear of the store. The packaged dashi itself is incredible, and while expensive, is well worth buying. It's an excellent broth base for restaurant quality udon.

Have been here on many occasions just to buy their high quality dashi. Last summer they also had a setup for evening drinks which was a very cool vibe. More recently had their teishoku - the saba (mackerel) was very good, although pricey. Expected due to the high quality, and pretty much zero competition with any other establishment. We got the tomato and squash sides. Tomato was good, squash was exactly what you'd expect. Is want to trey the shiitake mushrooms next time. Service time is fairly quick and there should be ample seating. Overall it's a good option to be able to have high quality teishoku and I'd definitely come back, but it's not a repeat meal due to the high price.

Really loved this experience The shop that shares the name and the space is full of high quality kitchen goods that are attractive and appealing The food is also top quality and delicious if you like this healthy Japanese fish diet. We had mackerel, salmon And one other Japanese specialty fish.. They were all great, but the salmon was tender and succulent with delicious flavor (more than the others imo). They don't start preparing your dish until you air so be aware - you order at the counter but they bring it to your table. True Japanese experience You won't be disappointed.
